If your child feels anxious about the dentist, you’re not alone.

Many children feel nervous, fearful, or overwhelmed during dental visits. Some are simply too young to sit comfortably through treatment. Others may need more extensive care.

Our goal is simple:

To help your child receive the care they need in the calmest, safest, most comfortable way possible.

We offer three levels of sedation, depending on your child’s needs.

You Don't Have to Wait.

You Don't Have to Suffer.

Call or Walk In

Call (317) 886-4512 or come directly to our Greenwood office. We will find a way to get you seen today.

 Same-Day Diagnosis

Dr. Stevens will examine your tooth, take x-rays, and tell you exactly what is going on — no waiting, no guessing.

Same-Day Treatment

In most cases, we can begin treating your pain the very same day. You came in in pain. Our goal is to send you home feeling better.

The Two Levels

of Sedation

We’ll recommend the option that keeps your child the most calm, safe, and comfortable based on their age, health, and treatment needs

Level 1

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

  • Best for: Mild nervousness or anxiety

  • Helps your child relax while remaining awake

  • Safe and commonly used for children

  • Wears off quickly after the appointment

  • Your child can return to normal activities the same day

This is often perfect for children who just need a little help feeling calm.

Level 2

General Sedation

  • Recommended for complex treatment or specific medical needs

  • Your child sleeps completely through the procedure

  • Performed in a setting with higher level medical supervision

  • Continuous monitoring by trained medical professionals

  • Used when treatment requires a higher level of medical supervision

This option ensures the safest environment for children who require advanced medical support during treatment.

Your child’s safety is always our top priority.

Every sedation option is carefully selected based on your child’s health, age, and treatment needs. We take time to explain everything, answer your questions, and make sure you feel completely comfortable before moving forward.

Our team is specially trained to care for children and ensure a calm, positive experience.

Not Sure What to Do Next? Start Here.

We've answered the most common questions so you can stop wondering and start getting help.

What counts as a dental emergency?

If you are in pain, it is an emergency — plain and simple. Severe toothaches, broken or cracked teeth, knocked-out teeth, lost crowns or fillings, swelling, infection, or a jaw that won't open or close properly all qualify. If something feels wrong and you are hurting, do not wait. Call us and let us help you figure out the next step.

Can I really walk in without an appointment?

Yes. We keep time available every day for patients who need us urgently. You can walk in or call ahead — either way, we will do everything we can to get you seen the same day. Calling ahead at (317) 886-4512 allows us to prepare for your arrival and may reduce your wait time.

Will you be able to treat me the same day, or just diagnose the problem?

In most cases we can do both — diagnose and treat — in the same visit. Whether it is an extraction, a same-day CEREC crown, an emergency filling, or infection treatment, our team comes prepared to address your problem right away. Our goal is that you leave feeling better than when you walked in.

I'm not a current patient. Will you still see me?

Absolutely. We welcome new patients for emergency visits. You do not need to have been seen here before. Call us at (317) 886-4512 and we will get you in as quickly as possible.

What if I'm nervous or afraid of the dentist?

We hear this more than you might think — and we take it seriously. Dr. Stevens and our team are experienced with anxious patients and will go at your pace from the moment you walk in. We also offer sedation options to help you feel calm and comfortable throughout your visit. You are safe here.

How much will an emergency visit cost?

Cost depends on what Dr. Stevens finds and what treatment is needed. Before any work is done, we will walk you through exactly what is recommended and what it will cost — clearly and honestly. Nothing is ever done without your approval. If cost is a concern, talk to us — we will work with you.

Emergency Questions Parents Ask Us

We want you prepared and confident, even in stressful moments. Here’s what parents ask us most about pediatric dental emergencies.

How quickly can you see my child for an emergency?

We make every effort to see emergency cases the same day, often within hours of your call. When you call our office, let the front desk know it’s an emergency and describe what’s happening — we’ll get you in as fast as possible.

What if my child’s baby tooth gets knocked out? Is that still an emergency?

Yes — but baby teeth are typically not re-implanted, as it can affect the developing permanent tooth. That said, you should still call us right away. We’ll examine your child to make sure there’s no underlying injury to the gum or jaw and give you guidance on what to expect next.

Should I go to the emergency room or call your office first?

For dental emergencies — toothaches, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, or mouth injuries without heavy bleeding — call our office first. We’re equipped to handle pediatric dental trauma and can often see your child faster than an ER. If there is significant bleeding that won’t stop, a head injury, or signs of a broken jaw, go to the emergency room immediately.

My child is very anxious about dental visits. Can you still help them in an emergency?

Absolutely. Working with anxious children is something our entire team is trained and experienced in. We use calm communication, gentle techniques, and a child-friendly approach even in urgent situations. Your child’s comfort is always part of the care.

Will my insurance cover emergency dental visits?

Most dental insurance plans include coverage for emergency visits. Call our office and we’ll help verify your benefits before or during your visit so there are no financial surprises on top of an already stressful day.

What if the emergency happens after hours?

Please call our office number at any time — our voicemail provides guidance for after-hours emergencies, including when to seek immediate care. We monitor urgent situations and do our best to connect with families in need as quickly as possible.

Sedation Questions Other Moms Ask Us

If you’re feeling nervous, that’s completely normal. These answers can help you feel more prepared before we meet in person.

Is sedation safe for children?

Yes. Sedation is carefully planned and monitored to ensure your child’s safety and comfort.

How do I know which option my child needs?

We evaluate your child and recommend the safest and most appropriate option.

Will my child feel pain?

Sedation is designed to ensure your child remains comfortable throughout treatment.

Can I stay with my child?

In most cases, yes. We want both you and your child to feel as calm and supported as possible, and we’ll let you know exactly what to expect on the day of treatment.

Will my child remember the visit?

With options like oral sedation and general anesthesia, children often remember very little or nothing at all about the procedure, which can help prevent future dental anxiety.
